The throat chakra oversees communication and self-expression (especially your ability to speak your truth). When your throat chakra is balanced you are a great communicator. You can express yourself in a way that people are eager to listen to you. You can communicate your thoughts, ideas and feelings with honesty and assertiveness.

- Difficulty speaking your truth or speaking it in a way that hurts other people
- Problems finding the right vocabulary to express your feelings and emotions
On the physical level:
- Neck problems
- Hormone imbalances
- Sore throat
- Teeth and gum issues
- Jaw pain
- Voice problems
- Hearing issues
If you suspect your throat chakra might be blocked, here are some ideas to help you balance it and improve your life.
How To Unblock Your Throat Chakra
- Meditate
Meditation is a great tool to unblock any of your chakras. To deal with a blocked throat chakra, try this simple meditation:
- Sit down in a place where you won’t be disturbed for 10 or 15 minutes.
- Close your eyes and focus only on your breath. When thoughts or distractions arise, simply observe them and let them pass.
- Take a deep breath through your nose, notice how the air fills your lungs, breathe out slowly. Repeat a few times, until you feel your muscles relaxing.
- Now imagine a ball of sparkling blue light in the centre of your throat.
- Feel it expanding, bringing you a sense of honesty, peace, and relaxation.
- Focus on feeling wonderful. You are in your bliss. Observe the light and give thanks for your throat chakra opening. You can chant the throat chakra’s seed sound of “Ham”.
- When you are ready you can open your eyes. Welcome the world with a smile :-).

Try this simply trick as it can be particularly helpful. Remember, you are not auditioning for a talent show. So, no stress! Don’t be shy and have a singing session under the shower, sing along with your favorite artist when in the car or… treat yourself (and your family) to a karaoke machine!
- Do Yoga
To open your throat chakra, try these yoga poses:
- Supported Shoulderstand pose (Salamba Sarvangasana)
- Plow pose (Halasana)
- Cat/ Cow pose (Marjaryasana/Bitilasana)
- Camel pose (Ustrasana)
- Fish pose (Matsyasana)
These asanas can help you open up your shoulders and release the tension from your neck. And releasing the neck muscles is highly recommended for your throat chakra.

- Do Neck Stretches
The mentioned above yoga poses can help you relieve neck tension. If you don’t have time to grab your yoga mat, try this simple exercise:
- Stand up with the arms down by your sides and feet hip-width apart.
- Gently and slowly tilt your head toward your right shoulder. Try to touch the shoulder with your right ear (make sure not to raise the shoulder). Stop when you feel the stretch. Hold the stretch for 10 seconds.
- Return the head to the start position.
- Repeat the exercise on the left shoulder.
- Repeat the set for a few times.
This is merely an example, research more neck exercises on the Internet and do the one which works best for you.

These are the essential oils which can help you balance your throat chakra:
- Frankincense
- Vanilla
- Spruce
- Sage
- Peppermint
- Cypress
One of the best ways to benefit from the essential oil is to use it in a diffuser. The scent and energy will surround you in a powerful way, invigorating your mood. Plus, some of the diffusers can be a beautiful addition to your home décor!
- Choose the right food
Balance your throat chakra with blue foods. Blueberries and blackberries will give you an antioxidant boost plus they are a good source of fiber and vitamins. Equally important, they are low in sugar and calories.
To feed your throat chakra add to your menu: apples, pears, peaches, and pears.
Also make sure to include in your diet liquids like herbal teas, coconut water or broth.

The throat chakra is linked to the color blue, no surprise then that including it in your life can help unblock this chakra.

- Try a Reiki session
Everything I proposed earlier on, you can do home by yourself. The last tip requires help from a Reiki practitioner, but it is a powerful option for unblocking your throat chakra (actually, a Reiki healing session benefits all the chakras in your body). If you haven’t been to a Reiki session yet and would like to know what to expect, make sure to read this post!
